Obituary For Alice Virginia-Evans Hines

Alice Virginia Evans Hines was born on November 15, 1940, in Farmville, Virginia to Smith and Lealia Calhoun Evans. She peacefully entered into eternal life on October 3, 2023, at The Woodland Nursing Home in Farmville, VA. After receiving her education through Prince Edward County Public Schools in Farmville, she later married Sam Asa Hines of Meherrin, VA.
She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age, was baptized and became a member of the New Witt Baptist Church. Serving under the leadership of the former pastor, Reverend Winston Bland, she was very dedicated in serving God. She was a member of the Willing Workers, Senior Choir, Door-to-door Sick and Shut-in Ministry, and Food Committee. Alice truly loved the Lord and prepared her children for her journey one day. She loved to cook for her family as well as others. She had a very strong voice that she used in the church choir. She also enjoyed fellowshipping at other churches. She would also help decorate tables for Homecomings and other events, as well as cook delicious food.
Alice worked at Hampden-Sydney College as a custodian for thirty-five years. She raised five children and one grandchild, while working at the college. She, along with her devoted, sent two children to college. She was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother.
Alice was preceded in death by: her parents, Smith and Lealia Calhoun-Evans; her husband, Deacon Sam Asa Hines; two sons, Thomas Lorenzo Shepperson and Frederick Douglas Hines; six brothers, John Evans, Dea. Morton Watson Evans, Rev. Dr. Hampton Evans, Sr., George Evans, Phillip Evans, and James Evans.

She leaves to cherish her memory; three daughters, Margaret Marie Hines-Raymond, Brenda Ann Hines-Anderson, and Janet Shepperson-Tucker; seven grandchildren, Aaliyah Olivia Raymond and Ollie Sam Asa Raymond, III of Meherrin, VA, Persephanie Re’al Shepperson and Megara Shepperson of Kennesaw, Georgia, Charita Shepperson-Warren and her son, Cameron of Chesterfield, VA, Monica Renea Hines- Rudesindo of Toms River, New Jersey, and Troynita Shepperson of a Richmond, VA; and one sister, Mattie West of Orange, NJ; and one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Shepperson of Kennesaw, GA; a devoted son-in-law, Ollie Raymond, Jr. of Meherrin, VA; a good friend, Mr. Londell Watkins of Meherrin, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
