Obituary For Bertha Louise Spain-Gordon

On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the glorious age of 100 years, Bertha Louise Spain Gordon transitioned to eternal life, from her earthly home in Prospect, Virginia. She was born on February 6, 1922 to Henry and Elizabeth Hill Spain in Prince Edward County, Virginia. At an early age, she confessed Christ as her Saviour, was baptized and joined First Rock Baptist Church in Prospect, VA. She received her education in the Prince Edward County Public Schools. She married Henry Gordon of Buckingham County, VA in Montclair, New Jersey in 1943. The couple was blessed with two children. Early in her professional life, Bertha worked in the dietary department of Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA. She then relocated to New York, where she became a nurse’s aide at Williamsburg Manor. With the mission to help people in need, she worked and retired from Franklin Hospital in San Francisco, California. After her retirement, Bertha relocated back to Prospect, VA. Once back at home, she truly enjoyed life --- shopping and eating out with friends, visiting other churches in the community for as long as she was physically able. She loved to talk and make people laugh, always telling funny jokes. Bertha was preceded in death by: her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Spain; her husband, Henry Gordon; and her son, also named Henry. She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy: her devoted daughter, Sheila Gordon; four grandchildren, Wilbert, Warren, Wanda and Vanessa; three great grandchildren, Aliza, Zena and Sierra; brother-in-law, Delano Jones; sister-in-law, Nancy Park; nieces, Dolly, Nancy, Gracie, Tina, and Penny; nephews, Roger, Alvin, Moe, Phillip, Clarence, and Junior; special beloved cousin, Grace Moton; a host of other cousins, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
