Obituary For Carolyn Ann Woodson
Carolyn Ann “Buffy” Woodson departed this life on March 30, 2023, at Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, Virginia. With a peaceful smile on her face, she said it’s “sleep time, y’all I need my beauty rest.” She was born in Prince Edward County on December 16, 1964 to the late William Payne and Novella Foster. Carolyn received her education from the Cumberland County Public School system where she graduated in 1984. She went on to work for privately owned family businesses in the surrounding area, before becoming a full-time housewife and birthing “Buffy’s Babies.” At an early age she gave her life to Christ and joined Green Creek New Site Baptist Church, where she spent half of her young adult life. It was there that she learned she had a voice to sing, and joined the Young Adult Choir. Filled with the word and hungry for more, Carolyn felt a need to grow even closer to God so she joined Union Outreach Fellowship Church. Carolyn filled many roles at Union Outreach. She served as one of the youth staff coordinators for Chosen Generation Ministry, an Usher, Greeter, Choir Member and a faithful part of the Hospitality Committee. Carolyn was truly a “LOVING MOTHER” although she never physically birthed any children. She left her “FINGERPRINT” on so many children she cared for and raised during her 30 plus years of childcare. Her fingerprint will live on for years to come because she touched so many in such little time. She had a heart of gold. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years: Lawrence Edward Woodson; one sister, Sandra Tune of Jersey City, NJ; one brother, Willie Foster Jr of Farmville, VA; two uncles, William & Ernest Ross of Farmville, VA; two aunts, Alberta Hubbard of Farmville, VA and Annie Mae Briggs of Flint MI. She leaves many to cherish her memory: ten siblings, Gail Ross of Farmville VA, William Payne III (Tanjou) of Farmville, VA, James Payne (Bridget) of Fork Union, VA, Linda Harrison of Farmville, VA, Jeffery Williams (Evelyn) of Jersey City, NJ, Glenn Booker (Sharonda) of Rice, VA, Ronald Booker (Barbara) of Blackstone, VA, Aundria Brown (Alonzo, Sr) of Farmville, VA, Christina Foster of Pamplin VA and Tiffany Payne of Las Vegas, NV; five aunts, Mary Martin of New Jersey, Inetha Boyce of Flint MI, Queen Webster of Farmville, VA, Grace Ross of Farmville, VA, Ida Ross of Washington D.C, Bessie Daughtry & Agnes Lynch both of Farmville, VA, and Rose Woodson of New York; two uncles, Anthony Johnson (Barbara) of Jersey City, NJ and Cleo McMillian of New York; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Streets of Philadelphia, PA and Joyce Southall of Bensalem, PA; one brother-in law, Preston Cuffie (Judy) of Philadelphia, PA; adopted daughter, Kim Jones; adopted son, Kevin Cuffie; Goddaughter, Shantel Sydnor and the first of many Buffy’s Babies, Lorraine Brown; four very special girlfriends, Kathy Johnson, Sherby Stanton, Omega Smith, and Mary Reed and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A very, very special thank you Ms. Tracey Fowlkes. You were not just Buffy’s PCA, you were her sister. From all of us and all the Buffy’s Babies we say thank you and may God continue to bless you.
