Obituary For Carrie Jefferson Bigger

Carrie departed this life, Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the Wayland Health and Rehab Center, Keysville, VA. She was born to the late Mosely Jefferson (deceased) and Helen Catherine Johnson Jefferson (deceased). She graduated from R R Moton in Prince Edward County in 1953. Carrie was one of the students who participated in the walk out strike at Robert Russa Moton High School with Barbara Johns. Carrie and her sister, Dorothy were part of the original plaintiffs in the Davis v. Prince Edward County May 23, 1951 case because of segregation in the school system. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined High Bridge Baptist Church where she was a faithful member physically and financially supported her church until her health issues. Carrie was a well known and gifted seamstress. She was employed by Craddock Terry Shoe Factory. Carrie had a sweet, quiet disposition and a beautiful smile. She enjoyed the Senior outings with Scope with Mrs. Louise Burnside and Mrs. Grace Foulks, they were all over the community.

She was married to the late Alexander Bigger, Sr. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Heldort (Easy), and granddaughters, Ebony and Mahogany, sister, Helen Elizabeth Baker, niece, Mary D. Evans. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: her daughter, Yolanda Gladden-Croskey (Joe), son, Alexander Bigger Jr. (Rosemary ), sister, Dorothy J Hart, Bronx, NY, grandchildren, great-grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
