Obituary For Carrie Sue Perkins Spencer

Carrie Sue Perkins Spencer was born on December 18, 1927, to Irene and Preston Perkins. She would tell you that she was her mother's early Christmas present. Carrie was seven years old when her father died and nine years old when her mother died. She was raised by her mother’s brother Albert Perkins and his wife Ida.
At the age of nine, Carrie joined Oak Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and attended Sunday Church School regularly.
In 1952, Carrie married Gilbert Corinthian Spencer, Sr. She worked at the Buckingham County High School as a Teacher’s Assistant. She loved and cared for all the children as if they were her own.
She sang with the choir at Oak Hill Baptist Church, Corner Stone Baptist Church, Second Liberty Baptist Church, and with the Buckingham Community Choir. She enjoyed traveling with the DLD Travelers taking bus trips to various states, seeing plays and visiting museums.
The community of Buckingham County is sadden by the loss of Sister Carrie Perkins Spencer. Heaven’s gain has removed a remarkable icon from our reach. Her notable wit and humor was legionary. Mrs. Spencer’s reach spread throughout the county from the school room, churches and to civic support. She not only supported her home church Oak Hill but if a sister church had an event you would see her with her late cousin Deacon Albert Perkins there as well as being a life-long fixture in attendance at Free Will Sunday School Union and United Baptist Association & Missionary Convention and their sponsored events.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Spencer, and her siblings (not in birth order): Richard Perkins, Preston Perkins, Abraham Lincoln Perkins, Lester Perkins, John Owen Perkins, Elsie Perkins, Edna Perkins, Julia Perkins.
She is survived by her children John “JD”, Gilbert, Jr. and Orrin and daughters-in-law Loveleen”Dee”, Margie and Andrita. Always surrounded and loved by her grandchildren: Lisa, Jeanene, Sherry, Marie, Sylvia, Ryan (preceded), Nicole, Melody, Orrin Jr., & Jonathan. Carrie also has 18 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins.
