Obituary For Clarence Lee Haskins

Late Thursday night, August 25, 2022, Clarence Lee Haskins (Fly) answered God’s whisper to cross over and become one of his heavenly angels. His last days were spent at Forest Health and Rehab in Lynchburg, VA where he was always smiling at his caregivers and asking his family if they were alright. He loved being outside and sitting on “Lois’s porch”, as he called it, every morning and afternoon. (Lois was his name for Mom). Even though his stroke in 2009 left him unable to maneuver on his own, he still enjoyed coming home to sit on “Lois’s porch “and watch the cars pass the road and marvel at God’s creation. He fought a good fight and never questioned God or asked why he was disabled. Clarence was born November 24, 1945 to Maloyid and Delores Perkins and was raised in Buckingham and joined the church at an early age. He received the nickname of “Fly” when he got in trouble at school and tried to escape his paddling by climbing the school wall. He graduated from Carter G. Woodson which is now known as Carter G. Woodson Education Complex in Dillwyn, VA. He was united in marriage to Lydia Brown and was blessed with two sons, Clarence Nathaniel Haskins, who preceded him in death, and Cedric L. Haskins. He worked most of his life as a bricklayer in the family business. Perkins Masonry, owed by his father. He was always talking about and pointing out to the non-bricklayers in the family whether the corner walls of buildings and the bricks were laid correctly and straight. Clarence enjoyed life and didn’t mind taking chances. He had early childhood health issues which he didn’t allow to affect his adulthood and he never complained about ever having a pain. He lived life to the fullest each day. Even during his last hours, he seemed peaceful. The stroke affected his speech, so he didn’t talk very much but he made sure his family knew that he was ready to be with God. Clarence was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Haskins Perkins, his oldest son, Clarence N. Haskins, and a sister, Baby Perkins. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Lydia Brown Haskins, a son, Cedric L. Haskins (Angela), both of Dillwyn VA, father, Maloyid Perkins of Dillwyn VA, two brothers, Maloyid Perkins Jr. (Elaine) of Norwich Conn., Kim Perkins (Michelle) of Roanoke VA, two sisters, Charlene Scruggs (John) of Madison Heights VA, Angela Thomas (Gary) of Manassas VA, a daughter in law, Monica Haskins of Lynchburg VA., four brother in laws, James E.
