Obituary For Claude Morris Silver

Claude Morris Silver was born on April 4, 1932 to the late Ben Silver and Minnie Burgess in Halifax County, North Carolina. On October 18, 2022, after a brief illness, Claude was called home to be with the Lord whom he loved with all his heart. Our father worked at the Maryland Lumber Yard and then moved on to work at Esskay Meat Packing Plant for many years before he retired. He was known from Baltimore to North Carolina to Farmville for his superb talent of home improvement and carpentry skills. He could build anything in the home from scratch and did many additions and repairs for friends and family. Had he done this a little longer I am sure we could have gotten him a spot on HGTV television. During Claude’s early years he was educated in North Carolina and moved to Baltimore with his first wife, Aramenta Silver. Out of this union were born four children, Claudia, Sheila, Kelvin and Felicia. Claude then married Fannie Silver on March 8, 1984. The devoted couple stayed in Baltimore until they both retired and moved to her hometown in Farmville, Virginia in 1992. Our father was a devoted Christian and after arriving in Farmville, he joined New Hope Baptist Church where he became a deacon. In September of 2018, Deacon Silver and his wife, Fannie joined St. Douglas Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Wendell Brown. Our father loved being with his family and even though he was five hours away, his children cherished the time that they were able to spend with him. As a family, the children and grandchildren enjoyed spending time with their PopPop doing outdoor activities and sitting in his den talking about life with words of wisdom and encouragement. Our father also knew his way around the kitchen and if you were fortunate enough to taste his minced barbeque, cole slaw or beef brisket, consider yourself blessed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his siblings, Ceocy, Lucy Mae, Ben Junious, Clarence, Artis, Haywood, Eva, Dock, Sr., Leola and the twins, Jameson and Johnson. Loved ones remaining to memorialize his life and legacy are: his children, Claudia P. Silver, of Prince George’s County, MD, Sheila V. Sheppard, of Parkville, MD, Kelvin Morris Silver (Patricia) of York, Pennsylvania and Felicia G. Silver of Baltimore, MD. He also leaves to mourn: his devoted brother, Robert Silver; his loving sister, Ruth Pullen; his sisters-in law, Gussie, Rachel, Lucy, Patty and Hattie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In a special place in Pop-Pop’s heart were his grandchildren, Cherina, Junies, (Latoya), Melvin (Ryan) and Kiara (Kevin) all of Baltimore, MD who also loved to listen to those stories of such a rich past with family and friends in Farmville and North Carolina. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Cordell, Joshua, Janielle, Junies, Shaei, Tyliek, Kenzo and McKenzie. The family would also like to give special thanks to the people in Farmville who assisted our dad many times in our absence and especially to Reverend Wendell Brown and Mrs. Ella Brown.
