Obituary For Clyde Semuel Hamlin

Clyde Semuel Hamlin was born on April 4 th , 1942, in Rice, Virginia to Mell T. Hamlin and Corine
Hamlin, He was the third born of four children. Clyde attended grade school in the Prince
Edward County school system before he moved to Baltimore, Maryland to attend high school.
After graduating high school, Clyde enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his tour of
duty, he was able to travel the world and enjoy his experiences with the Air Force.
In 1975 he met and married Leona Hamlin. They had one son Derrick Hamlin born in 1980. After
20 years of service in the Air Force, he was proud to become a retiree. He enjoyed sharing
stories of his service and the many lifelong connections he made. Clyde then decided to further
his education and obtained his bachelor’s degree in business management from Temple
University.
After retirement from the Air Force Clyde went on to work for the Federal Government. He
completed his dream of a second retirement in 2000 after 20 more years of service with the
government. He then moved back home to Rice to enjoy his best years. Clyde enjoyed his free
time by going fishing, traveling, concerts, and hanging out with his friends and family. He also
became a popular member of the local car community with his 1972 Monte Carlo. He has a
room full of trophies that he has won at car shows in the area that he took pride in.
He also picked up a few new hobbies while enjoying retirement. One of those being able to tell
you where the best food was in a 50-mile radius. He loved going to get a meal at the buffet
which was his favorite. The other was taking things apart and never putting them back together
as most of us know.
He was Uncle Clyde to many not just family but friends and extended family. Everyone enjoyed
his laughter and sense of humor.
Clyde departed this earth on March 25, 2026, peacefully at his home in Rice, Virginia. He has
joined his parents Mell and Corine, his brother Dennis (Chink), sister Pricilla (Puddin), Nephew-
Brother Michael. He leaves behind one son Derrick, one brother Mell T. Hamlin Jr., Special
nieces Dr. Denise Hamlin-Glover, Deneen Hamlin, Jo Ann Stuart, Jamilia Hamlin. Nephews
Vincent Hill, Andre Hamlin, Franklin Bennett, Ronald Hamlin, Bruce Stuart, and Ronald Hamlin
Jr. A host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. One very
special friend of many years that was by his side and brought joy to his life.
