Cora Bernice Eldridge Peaks, 93, of Buckingham County, Virginia, died on August 10, 2026. She was born on April 15, 1933, in Buckingham County to James Grandville Eldridge and Cora Lee Eldridge. Cora's life was rooted in faith and service. Baptized at an early age at Baptist Union Baptist Church, she carried her Christian commitment throughout her life. After her marriage to Raymond Turner Peaks, she joined Baptist Union Baptist Church, where she became an active member of the choir, taught Sunday school, and served as superintendent of the Sunday school program. Her faith was not merely personal; it shaped how she lived and worked. For fifty years, Cora devoted herself to the Buckingham Public School System, beginning at age seventeen as a cafeteria worker. Over the decades, she served as a teacher's aide and bus driver, but her greatest joy came through her work in the special needs program for disabled children. Those she taught and those who worked alongside her remembered her warmth and dedication. She retired in 2005 after five decades of faithful service, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and care that touched generations of students and staff. Cora emphasized the importance of biblical teaching and family values in raising her three children: Raymond S. Peaks, Adrian Peaks, and Coretta R. Peaks Austin She maintained a particularly close bond with her siblings, Zannie Miller and Clarence Eldridge, throughout her life. She enjoyed being a proud grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Raymond Turner Peaks; her daughter, Coretta R. Peaks Austin (Glenn); three sisters-in- law, Ruth Kirkland, Annie Mae Peaks Agee, and Lucille Peaks Taylor; five brothers-in-law (The Peaks Brothers)- John, Ulysses, Alfred, Heweith, and Authur; and her grandson Jamal T. Peaks. She is survived by her children Raymond Peaks (Brenda) and Adrian Peaks, and she leaves behind a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family who knew her as a woman of integrity and love.
