Obituary For Derrick Sharpe

Derrick Sharpe was born on June 29, 1983 to Nelson and Bessie Mae Royster Sharpe, in Farmville, Virginia. He was raised in Buckingham County, attended and graduated from Buckingham County Public Schools. In his early years, he attended and participated in church activities. In school, he was active in basketball and other competitive activities. Derrick was compassionate, loving, caring and helpful to all of his family and friends, especially his parents, his brother and sister-in- law, Nelson, Jr. and Vickie, and niece, Aalayah. He was employed by Buckingham Correction Center for several years and where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He persevered through a complicated surgery and a long hospitalization. He continued to be positive and helpful, never giving up hope. He will truly be missed by all. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted parents, Bessie and Nelson Sharpe, Sr.; his brother, Nelson Sharpe, Jr. (Vickie); nieces, Aaliyah and Shamyiah; nephews, Jaheim, Karon, DaShawn and Devonte; godchildren, DeMarcus and London; devoted friends, Randell, Curtis, Steven, Vickki, Linda and Swannda; and a host of other relatives and friends..

My deepest sympathy to the entire family. Derrick and I were in classes from Kindergarten until 2001 when we graduated together. Derrick was a wonderful & kindhearted soul with a beautiful smile. He was always there if you needed to talk, if you needed help in class and if you just needed to laugh. God has gained a wonderful angel. He will be truly missed. Sending you all love and prayers during this difficult time.
