Obituary For Dorothy Mae Carter

Dorothy Mae Carter, daughter of Edmonia
Bolden Carter and the late Samuel Carter, was born
on January 6, 1949, at Southside Community
Hospital in Farmville, VA. At an early age Dorothy
Mae became a member of the Zion Baptist church
where she later became a Sunday school teacher for
the youth of the church. Dorothy Mae graduated
from Luther P. Jackson High School in Cumberland,
VA, and attended Lynchburg College for a short
time before joining the Military. She was a strict
babysitter who served her country, community,
family and her church. A true soldier for the Lord
and her country.
She was preceded in death by her father,
Samuel Carter; sister Gertrude Ann Carter and
three brothers; Arnell, James, and George Carter.
Also, nephews; Sherman Carter, Michael Grace,
Andrew Thaxton.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: her mother,
Edmonia Carter of Cumberland, VA; two sister in
laws, Hazel Carter of New Rochelle, NY, Brenda
Thaxton of Danville, VA; Three aunts; Mabel
Gregory (Joseph) and Thelma Jones (James) of
Cumberland, VA and Lillian Bolden of Richmond, VA.
Two uncles; Jefferson Bolden (Elsie) of Newport
News, VA and Thomas Bolden (Cecilia) of
Buckingham, VA. A niece and nephew; Michelle and
James Carter, Jr. of Richmond, VA and Steven
Grace of Roxboro, NC. Her spiritual mentors; Elder
Janene Jones and Elder James and Renee Hodges,
and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins,
god-children, friends and other relatives who will
miss her dearly.
