Edith Glover Austin was born on April 17, 1925, in Orangeburg, South Carolina to the late Joseph Paul Glover, Sr, and Gladys Davis Glover. She was
so tiny at birth; she received the name “Doll Baby.” Edith was the second child
of eight children. She had five brothers: Joseph Paul Glover, Jr; Eugene Glover, Lawrence Glover; Thornton Ernest Glover and Ronald Glover Kashaka and two sisters; Sheryl Glover Gilford, and Josephine Glover Sykes. Her mother died when Edith was 6 years old and her paternal Aunt and Uncle, Bessie and Arthur Moss raised both she and her brothers, while their father sought work in New York City and established himself, to provide a home for she and her siblings.
