Obituary For Eligah M Gray

Eligah Gray of Monroe Twp. New Jersey passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, surrounded by family. Eligah was born May 8, 1942 to the late Elijah Gray and Sallie Woodson Gray. He went to Gannaway School in Dillwyn, Virginia. He then attend Carter G Woodson High school. After a year, he went to work in the Dillwyn area to help his family. He moved to New Jersey in the 1960's for better jobs.

He did a few odd jobs at the local furniture store doing deliveries. Eligah worked with a private company, William Kellett, located in Elizabeth, New Jersey, as a rigger. The company moved heavy equipment from factories for many years until it closed down. He then did construction work for Local 699 out of Newark, New Jersey. When construction work slowed in the 1980's, he worked for The City of New Brunswick as a truck driver for the department of sanitation until he retired.

In 1973, he met the love of his life, Lois Hay. They later married and he leaves: two children, Jerome and Robert Hay; one granddaughter, Ali'yah and new great grandson Damian. He also leaves behind: two sisters, Alberta Jackson and Cora Epps of New Jersey; three brothers, James Gray of Dillwyn. Virginia, Jim ( Sharon) Gray of Irvington, New Jersey and Alonza Gray of Charlotte North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Eligah became a mason with Moab Lodge #70 in Rahway, New Jersey. He remained a member in good standings at his time of death. He was also a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Rahway New jersey. The last few years his health impeded his ability to physically be at church but he would watch on Facebook. Eligah was a kind and good person. He would help if you needed it and think nothing of it.

He is predeceased by Sister Emma Lois Austin, Alice Gray, brother Charlie and Henry Woodson and his nephew Derrick Gray. His lifelong friends Robert and Douglas Hatchett.

Eligah had a few nicknames Foots, Big foot and his sister Cora's endearing nick name (Meat Head) He will be deeply miss yet we rejoice in knowing NO MORE PAIN he is at PEACE NOW RESTING in JESUS ARM'S.
