Obituary For Emanuel Hill

Emanuel Hill, fondly known as Mickey, was the son of the late Sydney W. Hill and Selma Pearl Hill. He was born September 28, 1934 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He was a student of the Prince Edward County School System, but was unable to finish school due to a strong sense of obligation and a desire to earn money to support his family. He began working on the railroad, until he met his beautiful wife, Etta Ruth Smith Hill, and started a family of his own. He decided to move his wife and young children to Baltimore, Maryland for new Opportunities, and started working as a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel. He worked there for several years, and after he retired, he longed to return to a simpler country life. He and his wife had a house in Prospect, VA, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching wrestling. He spent his time on his farm taking care of dogs, chickens, and even goats. He loved worshipping the Lord and used his smooth voice to sing praise music with his group, the Jericho Gospel Singers. In much later years, he continued to build meaningful relationships with his friendly personality and great sense of humor. He connected with his growing family of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even a great-great grandchild. He loved them all. Emanuel was called home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2023 from the Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Appomattox, VA. Predeceased by his wife, Etta Ruth, Emanuel’s legacy is continued by: one son and three daughters; two brothers; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and a great-great grandson; as well as a host of other family and friends. The family gives special thanks to Mary “Betty” Johnson and her family, whose love and support for Emanuel was truly a gift and a blessing.
