Deaconess Florine Johnson Brown was born in Buckingham County, Virginia on October 2,1932. She was the daughter of David Johnson and Lou Gertrude Stanton Johnson of Buckingham County, VA. She departed this life peacefully to be with the Lord at the University of Virginia Hospital, in Charlottesville, VA, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Florine gave her life to the Lord at an early age and was baptized at Baptist Union Baptist Church in Dillwyn, VA. She was educated in the public schools of Buckingham County. She was a dedicated housekeeper for many years, until she began working as a Food Service Supervisor at the Fork Union Military Academy. She remained in this position until her retirement in the early 90’s. Florine also had a passion for baking desserts, such as cakes and pies, working in her garden, and canning different fruits and vegetables. Florine was united in holy matrimony to Bernard Brown on November 14, 1949. She was a loving, devoted wife, caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She was a faithful member of Baptist Union Baptist Church, where she served on the Senior and Mass Choir, member of the Thelma C. Vowels Missionary, BUBC Food Bank, Kitchen Committee, member of the Deaconess Ministry, served as Church Clerk, Treasurer for Sunday School, member of the Willing Workers Club, and one of the adopted grandmothers of the Missionary. You could always count on her to decorate for Harvest Day. She attended Sunday School every Sunday until her health began to decline. Florine is proceeded in death by: her parents; husband; a beloved son, Arthur Brown; three brothers; Willie K. Johnson, Henry Johnson, Sr., and William Earl Johnson; and five sisters; Carrie Booker, Aileen Brown, Sallie Lee, Margie Manns, and Peggy Johnson. Florine leaves to cherish her memory: three loving and devoted daughters, Dorothy (Lawrence), Phyllis (George), and Gloria (George), all of Dillwyn, VA; One daughter- in-law, Lori Brown, of Ruckersville, VA; five grandsons, Alexander, Brandon (Ebony), Xavier (DaLynn), Arturo, and Reginald; eight great-grandchildren, Khyren, Kamren, Gabrielle, Za’Marii, Xavier, Jr., Kali, Ja’Siah and Ja’Zel; one great great-grandchild, Khyler; one sister, Catherine Booker of Dillwyn, VA; one sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of Dillwyn, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
