Obituary For Francine Giles

Francine Giles was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother, sister and friend. She transitioned from this life on January

10, 2024, from the Woodland, in Farmville, Virginia, at the age of 85 years
old. Francine was born on February 14, 1938, to Mary and Ivanhoe Lee
Patterson. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Mary and Ivanhoe Patterson;
and stepfather, Jack Word, all of Buckingham, VA. In her early 20s, she
married Archie Giles, who preceded her in death. Her daughter Jerrilyn

Patterson; grandson Kelly Patterson; great-grandson, Sincere Banks-
Patterson, and seven brothers and six sisters, with Lucille Peaks, being

much more than a sister, but, also a best friend; her beloved friend,
Lauretta Ruth Oliver; and her dear sister-in-law Signora Patterson also
preceded her in death. At an early age, she was baptized and became a member of the Second
Liberty Baptist Church, in Andersonville, VA, where she served on the food
committee for several years. She attended the Buckingham County Public
School System. She was employed as a cook at numerous local restaurants, including
Monroe’s Kitchen, Jax Restaurant, and Sprouse’s Corner Restaurant for
several years. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed serving food for her
family, friends, and community. She was well known by so many for her
famous sweet potato pie. She leaves to cherish her memories: one devoted daughter Emma
Giles (Mickey, who she fondly called her buddy); son, Archie Giles;
beloved granddaughter and dedicated caretaker, Clarissa Giles; other
granddaughters, Renata Chambers, and Tiffany Giles; three grandsons,

Michael, Walter, and Joseph; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-
great-grandchildren. She passionately referred to her grandson Jaquan

Chambers as her “Sweets” and Josiah, Jordan, and Jaden as her good babies.
They would later give her the name, Mama Tee; and her granddaughter
in love, Tia who was very special to her; brother-in-law, Arthur Giles
(Shelley); and a host of nieces and nephews she loved so dearly.
Fulfilling the wish of their mother Lucille Peaks, to take care of her sister,
Francine’s nieces, Regina and Rose Marie, and Gaston were faithful and
devoted. Fond memories of love and support from Jeanie Barr, Laura
Rhodes, and Nancy Faxon will be remembered. Special thanks to her niece,
Charlotte Patterson.
