Fred Richard Jones was born April 4, 1929 to Solomon and Valonia Washington Jones, in Prospect, Virginia. He quietly departed this life and entered eternity on September 25, 2024, at Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, Virginia.

Fred attended and graduated from Peaks Elementary School and then enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his education gaining his GED. He honorably served in the military for 21 years, fighting in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars with the 127th Airborne Unit.

After retiring from the military, Fred returned to his home in Prospect, Virginia. He reunited with Peaks Baptist Church, in which he accepted Christ as his personal savior, was baptized and became a faithful member. He faithfully served as an ordained deacon (Chairman), superintendent of Sunday school and a member of the male chorus. He was employed by Thomasville Furniture until they ceased operations.

In November 1990, Fred was united in marriage to Mable Hendricks-Allen. They enjoyed a loving union for almost 34 years. He was a strong, dependable and faithful husband. He was very smart when it came to doing task around the home. He never gave up and was multitalented.

Fred was preceded in death by: his parents, Solomon and Valonia Jones; his first wife, Rosa Jones; two brothers, Benjamin and Earl Jones; four sisters, Mozell, Hendricks, Lula Jones, Margaret Epperson, and Wilsie Jones; and one nephew, Brad Hendricks.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Mable Jones of Farmville, Virginia; two step daughters, Neche and Kim; step son Cameron; one brother, Plummer Jones; two sisters, Emma Jones and Elnora Hendricks, all of Prospect, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Arlean Jones of Farmville, Virginia; nieces, Angela Jones, Patricia Newsome (Michael), Kathy Swann, Kathy Ward and Rhonda Ward; and a host of other family and friends.
