Obituary For Gearl Dean Reid

Gearl Dean Reid, daughter of the late John and Helen Dorsey Dean, was born October 13, 1931, in Buckingham County, Virginia. She quietly entered eternity at her Farmville, Virginia residence on March 4, 2023. She received Christ as her Savior and became a life-long member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Dillwyn, VA. She was also a frequent visitor at Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland County, VA. Gearl graduated from Buckingham Training School in 1950, then pursued a career in Cosmetology, graduating from Bernetta’s Beauty School, in Cumberland, VA. Gearl met and married Warren A. Reid on June 13, 1953. After marriage, she opened her own beauty shop – Gearl’s Beauty Parlor, and continued to operate it until she was well into her 80’s. An entrepreneur at heart, Gearl bought several rental properties in the area and established Reid’s Rental LLC. She continued to manage them until recently. She was married to her beloved Warren for 53 years, and worked beside him to build their businesses, Bland-Reid Funeral Home, Inc. which also includes Reid’s Funeral Home and at one time, West’s Funeral Home. In 1978, she took the necessary steps to become a licensed funeral director. She was a member of the Virginia Morticians Association and the Southside Funeral Directors Association. Anyone who knew Gearl, knew she loved to cook and entertain. She loved having family to visit and especially enjoyed visits from her great grandchildren. Gearl was preceded in death by: her husband, Warren A. Reid; parents, Helen and John Dean; and eleven of her fourteen siblings.
