On February 18, 2025, our beloved father, brother, husband and friend, George Dillard Jones, Sr. answered the call of our Heavenly Father and peacefully entered into eternal rest at his home in Prospect, Virginia.

George was born March 27, 1934 in Appomattox County, VA to Joel Lee Jones and Amanda Daniel Jones. He attended Appomattox County Public Schools and at an early age, was baptized and joined Peaks Baptist Church in Prospect, VA. He was an active member of Peaks and became a loyal and faithful member of the Trustee Board.

He was joined in Holy Matrimony to his best friend, Grace Louise Carr, to whom he was happily married for seventy years. George and Grace were blessed with two children, George Jones, Jr. and Sandra Jones. George was a hard worker and providing for his family was a top priority. He was employed by Norfolk and Southern Railroad, from which he retired after forty two years of service. He loved going to his favorite restaurant, Burger King, and having his favorite menu item, a BK Fish sandwich.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by: his loving wife, Grace Louise Jones; one sister, Arlene Johnson; five brothers, David, John, Jack, Joe and Wesley Jones; one brother-in-law, Lester Carr and son-in-law, James Phillip Goode.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: his daughter, Sandra Jones Goode and his son, George Jones, Jr. (Irene) both of Prospect, VA; two sisters, Carol Bagby of Prospect, VA and Alice Jones of Jarrett, VA; two brothers, Samuel Jones (Dorothy) of Prospect, VA and Clarence Jones of Pamplin, VA; two brothers-in-law, Lander Carr of Pamplin, VA and Leroy Carr (Gwen) of Helena, Alabama; four grandchildren, Minister Latoya Randolph, Darrell Goode (Amber), Anthony Jones (Tiffany), Tyrek Goode (Candace); his special barber, Ramonto Ligons; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He will be greatly missed.
