Obituary For Gillie Victoria Armstead

Gillie Victoria Flournoy Armstead departed this life on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, to be with the Lord in her home. Gillie was born on December 7, 1942, in Farmville, Virginia. She was the youngest of two children born from the union of the late Solomon and Lillian Flournoy. Gillie grew up in Farmville, Virginia. She was a graduate of R. R. Moton High School and continued her education to earn a degree from Virginia State University.

Gillie was a devoted member of First Rock Baptist Church, Prospect Va. She was a Deaconess, member of the Hospitality Ministry, member of the Gospel Choir, and served as secretary for Central Virginia Deaconess Union. She loved to help people any way she could. She formally worked for Sun Oil Company (Philadelphia), STEPS, South Central Private Industry Council, VEC, and Cumberland County Schools as a substitute.

On June 30, 1963, she married the love of her life, James C. Armstead. From this union was born one daughter, Priscilla Armstead Robinson. She loved being with her family, especially during the holidays and doing her crossword puzzles and playing solitaire on her computer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James

C. Armstead, sister, Evelyn Williams, and granddaughter, Nicole Robinson, Gillie leaves to cherish precious memories: Her daughter, Priscilla Robinson of Glen Allen, VA; Grandchildren, Malcolm Robinson (Dani)(Las Vegas), Marcus Robinson (California), Miles Robinson (Glen Allen, VA), Great-grandchildren, Malik Houchens (Montpelier, VA), Mackenize Robinson (Las Vegas);sister-in-law, Goldie McClinton (Philadelphia); Nieces, Yvette Gray (Maryland) and Karen Jackson (California), Cousin, Elizabeth White (Farmville), Henry Wright (Missouri), Best Friends, Ruth and Hank Allen, (Farmville) and a host of extended family and friends.
