Obituary For Hampton Martin Scott Jr

Hampton M. Scott Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 7, 2022 at Crozer Hospital in Chester, PA. He was born on March 27, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA to Hampton and Gladys Scott. He grew up in Farmville, VA and joined Zion Hill Baptist Church at the age of 8yrs old. He was baptized there as well. He attended the public schools in Farmville, VA until the state mandated the schools in Prince Edward County to be closed. He then moved to Medía, PA to continue his education. He attended Nether Providence High School and Media High School. After graduating from Media High School in 1964, he attended Lincoln University where he majored in Business Administration. He was subsequently drafted into the US Army in February 1969.

Hampton worked in Media for Winters Moving Company for a number of years. He valued hard work, honesty, and the value of a person’s word. He enjoyed fixing and repurposing things and started his own contracting business, HMS Home Improvements Inc. in 1996. He was also a department manager in Home Depot until he retired in 2013.

He was a faithful member of Abounding Grace Family Worship Center until his passing. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing and bowling with his friends, spending time with family, playing solitaire, and listening to the golden oldies.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, mentor, cousin, and much more. He was preceded in death by his grandparents David and Bette Foster Redd; his parents Hampton and Gladys Scott. He is survived by his wife Shirley; his children Hampton (Marsha) Scott III and Yolanda (Christian) Lopez; his 5 grandchildren Blake Scott, Xavier Scott, Hampton Scott IV, Isabella Lopez, and Ethan Lopez; his sister Lorraine Ward; his nephew Donald (Carol) Ward and many other beloved cousins and friends.
