Hester J. Washington was born to the late Gerri Lee and Edmund Washington on January 5, 1938. She departed this life on October 23, 2023 at her home in Prospect, Virginia.

At an early age, she was baptized and joined the Peaks Baptist Church. She received her early education in Prospect, Virginia and graduated from Robert Russa Moton High School in Farmville, Virginia.

She was employed at Southside Community Hospital in the Environmental Services Department for over 30 years until she retired.

Hester was preceded in death by: her two brothers, Joseph and Jesse Ross; and one sister, Carolyn Ross. She also had a special friend of over 30 years, John Jones, who also preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory: brother, Branche Washington (Rosaline); two nieces, Adrienne Cutler (Ronnie) and Melody Washington; nephew, Terrance Washington; five bonus nieces and nephews, Alvin Ross (Evelyn), Rose Carr-Ross, Linwood Ross, Mark Ross and Lorri Ross; and a host of great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hester was blessed to have family to stand in the gap for her during her illness: Elaine Ross, Darlene Jordan, Geneva Bigelow and her faithful and dutiful nurse, Phyllis Cumbie.
