Obituary For Isabelle Mosley Johnson

On the morning of October 14, 2024, our beloved mother, Isabelle Mosley Johnson, peacefully entered her Heavenly Home, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born July 4, 1923 to John Ed and Charity Perkins Mosley, in Buckingham County, Virginia. Being born to a Christian family, she joined St. Joy Baptist Church at an early age and attended the St. Joy Elementary School.

She married Wirt W. Johnson on June 22, 1941. God blessed the couple with five natural children plus one additional child which they raised. After her marriage, she became a member of the Warminister Baptist Church. She loved her church family and all the surrounding communities. At Warminister, she served as a Deaconess, on the Missionary Circle and Senior Choir. Teaching Sunday school gave her great joy. She was also an active member of the NAACP, the Buckingham Community Choir, and the Slate River Association. She sponsored many programs and was a member of the Slab Town Convention Play.

She loved children, and reading her Bible, with the 27thPsalm being her favorite scripture. Two of her favorite songs were “God Built a Shelter” and “Guide Me OverThou Great Jehovah”. She loved planting flowers and making large gardens, and canning food from her gardens. She was employed by the Appomattox Garment Factory for fifteen years.

Deaconess Johnson was preceded in death by: her parents, John and Charity Mosley; husband, Wirt W. Johnson; seven sisters, Rebecca Gordon (James), Margaret Wicker (Walter), Lottie Morgan (Emmitt), Julia Mosley (Daniel), Mildred Mosley (Ruben), Nannie Jackson (Amos), and Addie Perkins (Leo);

eleven brothers, Stephen Mosley (Rosa), Ben Mosley, Bill Mosley, Henson Mosley, Daniel Mosley, John Mosley (Pauline), Samuel Mosley (Mary), Morman Mosley,

Sylvester Mosley, David Mosley (Minnie) and Richard Mosley (Mary); one son-in-law; and three grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Charles Johnson (Elsie) of Charlottesville, VA, Joe Johnson of Cary, North Carolina, and Kim Mosley of Triangle, VA; three daughters, Katie Fleming, Mary harper, and Edna Cary, all of Buckingham, VA; her precious niece, Dorothy, who was like a daughter; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Condolences to my family and loved ones of Great Great Aunt Belle. May the Lord welcome her with open arms and May she rest eternally in peace. Thank you for always being a positive part of my childhood and though I shed tears from the loss of your physical presence I am grateful for all you showed my grandmother and me. Love always Dominique Jones

    To the Johnson family, I will never forget Mrs. Johnson's beautiful smile and that lovely voice when she sang so eloquently. God has a new member singing in the Heavenly Choir. May the family find comfort in knowing she is in her Resting Place. May God provide the strength needed to get through this tough time. Love, Nancy Brown Smith
