Obituary For Issac Alfonzo Wardell

Issac Alfonzo Wardell, the second of nine children born in Farmville, Virginia to Alfonzo Wardell, Jr. and Corrine CobbsWardell, was born April 25, 1957. He quietly transitioned into eternity on October 15, 2025, from The University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, VA, after a long fourteen year battle with multiple myeloma.

He grew up in Prince Edward County, VA, where he attended and graduated from Prince Edward County Public Schools. Early in life, he confessed Christ as his Savior, was baptized, and became a member of the Sulphur Spring Baptist Church.

Issac was a hard worker, sometimes working two jobs at once. During his adult life, he was employed by Thomasville Furniture Company for 35 years, until they closed. He later transitioned to working with the State and a construction company, taking on various responsibilities with dedication.

He was a great entrepeneur, working on and selling cars. He enjoyed playing baseball with local community teams. His favorite hobby was racing! He often spoke of his passion for building and driving his race car. He poured his heart into working on his own car but also helping others with theirs. For Issac, the racetrack was more than just a place. It was where he really came alive. The thrill of driving was everything to him.

Issac was a great husband, son, father, brother, grand and great grandfather, teacher, and friend. He loved deeply loved his wife, his entire family, and friends. To his grandchildren, he was simply “Papa”, a name spoken with love. The bond he shared with them was full of warmth and affection. He would always say “I don’t know what you need if you don’t ask.” He received his joy by helping whenever needed. Giving a few dollars every now and then was his way of telling you he loved you, appreciated you or was encouraging you to up the good work. He loved everyone!

Issac was predeceased by his father, Alfonzo Wardell, Jr. and both sets of grandparents. He leaves to cherish many loving memories: his wife, Peggy Pennix Wardell of Spout Springs, VA; his mother, Corrine Wardell; four children, Pedro “Sonny” Jennings (Tina) of Pamplin, VA, Monica Turner (David) of Fort Washington, Maryland, Theophilus Pennix of Waldorf, MD, and Gregory Wardell of Spout Springs, VA; eight grandchildren, Jaquan, De’Suan, Dayvon, Kadeshia, Anyah, Tamia, Paige, and David, Jr.: eight great grandchildren, Kylie, Jaliyah, Jayden, Kyon, Josiah, Ju’ni, Ja’Myla and A’Mazi; three, sisters, Angela Robinson (Ivan), Aretha McNair (Lenel), and Lena Foreman (Sean); five brothers, Leon Wardell (Carolyn), Clinton Wardell, Reginald Wardell (Betty), Warren “Sweetpea” Wardell (Jonni), and David Wardell (Vicki); three aunts, Alberta White, Patricia Gaddy. and Nellie Danner; two uncles, Leroy Cobbs and Raymond Wardell; a host of brothers, and sisters in-law nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. His presence will be greatly missed by all.

God has you in His keeping and we have you in our hearts.
