Obituary For James Roger Perkins

On March 6, 1929, Henry Perkins and Annie Cunningham Perkins of Buckingham County, Virginia welcomed into the world a son, James Roger Perkins. Roger, as he was affectionately called, strived and began his early education at Slate River Elementary School and at an early age joined the Slate River Baptist Church upon his profession of his acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and baptism. For a number of years, Roger worked as a wood cutter and then found employment with the railroad. An outdoors man, Roger loved being out and about driving.... seeing and conversing with friends and strangers alike throughout the counties and neighboring communities. He connected this love to/with helping friends with transportation. In 1951, Roger was joined in Holy Matrimony to Louise Virginia Taylor. This union of 71 years was blessed with seven children, two sons and five daughters. On Monday, January 30, 2023, James Roger Perkins transitioned from his earthly residence to his eternal home. Roger was preceded in death by: his parents, Henry Perkins and Annie Cunningham Perkins; his two sons, Roger Burnette “Bunny” and James Benette “Benny”; two daughters, Joyce Anne Alton and Kathy Edwards; three sisters, Lucille Perkins, Mary Chambers and Alice Mae Sedgwick and two brothers, William and Willie Edward “Eddie.” Memories of Roger will endure through his surviving family members: his steadfast and devoted wife, Louise Perkins; their children, Sharon Jones, Wanda Woodson, Robin Perkins-Bowles; his surviving siblings, John, Francel, Ethel Taylor and Grace Chambers; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his special friends, Cora Lee Perkins and cousin, Solomon “Bubba” Brown, Jr.
