Obituary For James Stovie Patterson
On Friday, October 27, 2023, at his daughter’s home in Dillwyn, Virginia, the angels closed the eyes of our beloved James Stovie Patterson. He was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and dearest friend, James was well known to everyone as “poo” or “Mr. Patterson”. James was born April 5, 1931 in Buckingham County to the late Jack Stovie and Polly Ross Patterson.
James attended Buckingham County Public schools. At an early age, James was baptized and joined Ridgeway Baptist Church. He always expressed how much he loved the Lord until his death. On December 25, 1959, he was united in holy matrimony with Clara Baker. To this union six children were born.
James was a janitor with Buckingham Public Schools until his retirement. James was well known by all. He could be seen at any time carrying rocks or walking around Dillwynwith his hands crossed behind his back. He loved playing his guitar, his harmonica and singing random songs that he remembered over the years. James found two new hobbies over the years in eating honey buns, and the most important one was lollipops or “suckers”, which his granddaughter. Te’Osha started him on. James could put a smile on anyone’s face. James loved his children, grandchildren, siblings, and family.
He was proceeded in death by: his wife, Clara BakerPatterson; two sons, Bernard and Thomas; one grandson,Antwaun; one great grandson, Sincere; three brothers, Matt, Willie (Bill) and Leroy; nine sisters, Nell, Mary, Susie,Etta, Arkatavis, Dorothy, Alberta, Mattie and Daisy.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Abraham; three daughters, Wilhelmina (Lonnie), Laverne andDeborah (Clarence); seven grandsons, Cornelius, LeNard,Delonte, Caderious, Rayshawn, Lamar and Sharod; one granddaughter, Te’Osha; ten great grandchildren, Daneisha, Za’hmear, Janiyah, Delonte Jr., Khalil, Karlie, Rylie, Shaly, KaiCen and Fa’lynn; one sister, Nannie; onebrother, John “Bobby” (Jackie); two special people in his life, Latasha and Jamari, whom James called “his little buddy”. Although he had many devoted friends, those especially dear to his heart were Rudy, Tucker, James Edmonds, Otis Anderson, Milton, Ruth Booker, John, Ed, and one special friend that was his riding partner, Annie Mae Brown.
