John Andrew Perkins Obituary

It is with profound sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of John Andrew Perkins, who departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on September 18, 1941, John lived a life marked by simplicity, gentleness, and quiet strength.

John was known for his quiet ways soft-spoken yet steady, humble yet dependable. His presence brought calm, and those who knew him cherished his peaceful spirit.

Many will remember John best for his lifelong passion for horses, a love inspired by his father, who was also a devoted horseman. As a boy, John stayed close at his father’s side, learning and absorbing lessons of patience, care, and respect. Throughout his life, John could often be found riding, training, buying, or selling horses—an interest that brought him joy, pride, and a deep sense of freedom. Horses were not merely a hobby for John; they were part of his identity. Those who knew him can still picture him in the saddle, calm, confident, and at peace.

In his later years, John moved to Northern Virginia to live with his daughter, where he was lovingly cared for. He was blessed with a devoted caregiver, Alban, who became not only a caregiver but a trusted friend and a cherished part of the family. Yet no matter how far he traveled, home was always “the hill” the place that shaped him and forever held his heart.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Perkins and Annie Cunningham Perkins; his beloved wife, Edmonia “Edna” Nabors Perkins; his brothers James “Roger” Perkins, Henry “Francell” Perkins, William Perkins, and Edward “Eddie” Perkins; and his sisters Lucille Brown, Mary Chambers, and Alice Mae Sedgwick.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. John is survived by his sisters Ethel Taylor and Grace Chambers; his children Paulus Irving Perkins and Moira Ann Perkins; his grandchildren JaPaulus Hall, D’Andre Washington, Moira “TaShae” Perkins, Flavio Ayaviri, and Aymar Ayaviri; and his great-grandchildren Leilani Kraft, Wynter Kraft, JRu Hall, X’yia Dover, and K’yahra Dove, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who loved him dearly.

Scripture of Comfort
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, nor mourning, nor crying, nor pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:4
