John Milton Rice, II was born May 6, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland to John L. and Annie Threat
Rice. He quietly departed this life and entered eternity on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from
home in Farmville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Edith M.
Brockington and Carl L. Rice.
John, affectionately known as “Junior”, confessed Christ as his Savior, was baptized and joined
New Hope Baptist Church in Prince Edward County. He served on the Trustee Board for several
years, played bass guitarist for the Jericho Gospel Singers and church choir.
He attended public schools in Prince Edward County Public Schools. John retired from Wilson
Electric Company.
On March 17, 1972, he was joined in holy matrimony to America Brown, who preceded him in
death. Four children were born to this union. He leaves to cherish his memory: three daughters,
Winifred Rice, Theresa Rice and Vercella Rice; one son, Wayne Rice; two grandchildren,
Shannon and Antonio Rice, and one great-grandchild, Antonio Rice, Jr; one brother, Paul
Harvey, two sisters-in-law, Martha Douglas and Dorothy Booker; one brother-in-law, George
Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
