Obituary For Juanita Taylor

J uanita Esther Terry-Taylor was born on February 11, 1937 in Harlem Hospital, New York, New York to

Mrs. Ethel B. Terry-Cannon and Mr. Cecil Wilson. She was raised by her Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ter- ry in Farmville, Virginia.

J uanita met her future husband, the late Asa L. Taylor Jr. in Farmville. They were married on November 16, 1951. They later relocated to New York. Their union remained intact for thirty-one and a half years, until his death in October 1983. They had six children together. She worked as a Domestic and Hotel Worker for over 40 years in New York City. Juanita was a Community Worker within the Melrose Housing Projects, where she and her husband raised their family for 60 years. She was part of Missionary and Flower Clubs at the First Union Baptist Church in the Bronx, NY. After her retirement in 1990, she relocated back to her home in Farmville, Virginia. There, she rejoined Race Street Baptist Church, where she was baptized at the age of 8; now known as Jericho Baptist Church. Juanita was a member of the Missionary Club. She loved reaching out to help anyone God guided her to. Juanita always put God first, every day of her entire life. She belonged to a Missionary Group with a few ladies of Jericho called

“The Ladies Who Care”. This group, along with Mrs. Ernestine Herndon, would visit the sick, shut in, home- less or anyone that was in need of food, prayer, company or gifts. She loved people.

J uanita attended Elementary School in Farmville. Although she may not have completed all the grades, the Lord Blessed her with more knowledge than the average highly educated person; She had a phenomenal memory bank, full of wisdom. Wherever she was, if you needed prayer, you got it right there! She enjoyed her 85 years of life to the fullest. She loved to travel; going to different types of music concerts, movies, and plays; especially with her family. Her New York family had the running joke of her being the Mayor of Mayberry. Because if “Juanita Taylor” made a phone call, things would happen or start to happen. One of her favorite quotes to everyone was “Drink that water!”. J uanita will be greatly missed and remembered for her many skills. One of those special skills was cooking. She was a Master Chef! She was taught how to cook by her Grandmother Fannie Terry. Juanita began to have health issues in early 2022. In June 2022, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. God called her Home on Monday, September 19, 2022. There aren’t enough words to describe what this great loss means to Juanita’s family and friends.

We are without words of how much we will love & miss you our Blessed Angel. This little light is a bit dim right now, but you always sung for us to let it shine...and that's Exactly what we must do. Thank you, for praying over me thru times when I needed a warrior, thank you for all the birthday cards and calls, thank you for never missing a phone call when I needed to hear your sweet voice, and thank you for being another grandmother to Laila. It's hard to say Good-bye, because it's really not...you linger and we still hear and feel your presence now in many ways. We love you, We love you, We love you...SIP Auntie💕💗🌈 -Jada & Laila

My mentor, role model, confidante, encourager and friend, it saddens me to know your voice has been forever silenced but it excites me to know your presence will always remain. Rest comfortably in the care of God sweet lady. Psalm 49:15
