Obituary For Lawrence Irving Reid

Deacon Lawrence Irving Reid was born December 3, 1957, to Frank Mason Reid and Lucille Wingfield Reid in Buckingham County, Virginia. He peacefully entered eternity from his Howardsville, Virginia residence on April 2, 2024.

Lawrence confessed his belief and love for Christ at an early age, was baptized and joined Salem Baptist Church. He served the ministry in so many ways— member of the church choir, participant in Sunday School, and Bible Study, as a trustee, and church sexton specializing in yard maintanance. On March 24, 2019, he was ordained as a Deacon.

Reared in Buckingham County, Lawrence received his education through Buckingham County Public Schools. He was employed in the housekeeping and security departments of the University of Virginia. After more than 30 years of service, he retired and began to focus more on his grass cutting business and being of service within his community. He loved working within and on the outside of his beloved Salem Baptist Church. He loved talking to family, friends, and neighbors. As a past time, he would often watch wrestling, and the wildlife channels.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Frank and Lucille Reid; a brother, James “Jimmy” Reid; a sister, Lucille “Butch” Reid; brothers-in-law, Walter Scott and Chris Lee; mother-in-law, Dorothy Lee; sister-in-law, Dolly Marshall; nephew, Bradley Reid Scott, and niece, Crystal Simpson.

Lawrence leaves many loving memories to: his loving and devoted wife, Brenda Lee Reid of Howardsville, Virginia; his beautiful daughters, Patricia Taylor (Alvin), Julie Miller-King (William), Patrice Reid, Tonya Rush, Deanne “DD” Rush, and Renata Austin; two sons, Lawrence Reid, Jr. and Rodney Lee; nine grandchildren, Kamirah King, William King, Kyheim Kier, Tejon Reid, Sinquaza Cousins, Zesha Goode-Rush, Isaiah Toney, Josiah Toney, Lasiyah Rush; one great granddaughter, Sinnova Brown; five step-grandchildren, Malachi, Kylah, Keriana, Jaylin, and Kayvon; three sisters, Frances Simpson, Glendora Reid, and Mary Scott; two brothers, Charles Reid, Sr.(Connie) and Mitchell Reid; three sisters-in-law, Laura Fowlkes, Julia Smith (Pete), and Edna Height (Robert); two brothers-in-law, Raymond Lee (Sandra) and Steve Lee (Darlene); devoted niece, Karen Jackson-Reid; his devoted friend, Rickey Gough; a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, all of whom Lawrence cherished.
