Obituary For Lena Logan Patton

Lena Logan Patton was born on February 13, 1941, in St. Mary’s, Georgia, to the late Deacon Leroy and Minister Abby Logan. She was the second of eight children. She is preceded in death by five siblings: Leroy, Horace, Frances, Brenda and Ervin.

She was educated in the St. Mary’s school system and graduated from high school in 1958. Lena later worked for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), where she faithfully served for 15 years before retiring.

Lena accepted Christ at the age of 12 at the St. Mary’s Church of God under the leadership of the late Pastor Thomas Myers. Even as a young girl, her passion for God and her compassion for people were unmistakable. She loved visiting the sick, singing and praying with them, and delivering her mother’s home‑cooked meals to those in need. She remained active in her church, especially among the youth, and often credited the saints at the Church of God for shaping her strong faith and steadfast walk with the Lord.

At age 17, Lena traveled to Washington, DC, on her senior class trip. With her parents’ blessing, she decided to remain there with her sister. On her very first day in the city, she was taken to Evangel Temple (now Evangel Cathedral in Upper Marlboro, MD), where she became a member under the leadership of the late Bishop John L. Meares. She served faithfully as Bishop Meares’ personal secretary and worked in the Youth and Evangelism Outreach Ministries. It was there, at just 18 years old, Lena received her call to ministry. Many prophetic words were spoken over her life, and she waited patiently, preparing herself until the appointed time when God sent her forth.

In 1960, while attending a Church of God Convention in Jacksonville, Florida, Lena met her soul mate, Robert Patton from the beautiful Nassau, Bahamas. It was love at first sight. After a brief courtship, they were married on August 7, 1960, at Evangel Temple, where they continued serving in ministry together. Their union lasted 55½ years until his transition to heaven on February 23, 2015.

While serving under Bishop Meares, God placed a burden on their hearts to begin a ministry. On January 7, 1968, Bishop and Pastor Lena Patton founded the Deliverance Church of Christ in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, beginning with three adults and four children. Over the years, the ministry expanded into an organization that birthed and covered seven churches throughout Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Arizona, while also providing spiritual covering for countless other ministries. For 58 years, Deliverance Church of Christ, Inc. has been a spiritual filling station—where countless souls have been saved, delivered, loved, nurtured, and trained. Many sons and daughters have been launched from DCC, Inc., going on to establish ministries, pastor churches, and serve mightily in the Kingdom.

Pastor Lena served as Associate Pastor of DCC#2 in Gladstone, VA and was a member of the Deliverance Church of Christ Association Board of Elders. She was known for her spirit-filledanointed preaching and her powerful, inspirational teaching at women’s conferences and church retreats across the country. Some of her memorable sermon titles include “The Band-Aid Without the Balm,” “From Pillow to Pillar,” “Don’t Let This Be Your Last Meal,” and “In the Same Cave with My Enemy.”

Pastor Patton desired to be remembered as a humble servant who loved God and His people. Her lifelong mission was to win as many souls as possible to Christ before being called to her eternal home—and she fulfilled that mission with excellence. Her life was a testimony of unwavering faith, boundless love, and steadfast service to the Kingdom of God.

Pastor Lena Patton has gone to reward, and leaves to cherish her memory, Four children: Minister Robrette Patton, Pastor Emil Patton, Pastor Ravon Patton (Pastor Janel), First Lady Vonett Jones (Pastor Winfred); Nine grandchildren: Minister Deon Patton (Minister Brittany), Brandon Bates, Delonte Patton (Nicole), Jeff Jones (Gabrielle), Stephen Bland, Jerrod Jones (Ahsaki), Kayla Bland, Jairus Jones, (Heaven) and Chelsea Bland; Sixteen great-grandchildren: Kaedon, Taylor, Maya, Kayveri, Zion, Zariah, Zyelle, Bethany, Kaiden, Khaya, Journey,Zaya, Legend, Marley, Aiden, Ikasha; Two sisters Georgian Carter, Leola Sellars (Bishop Asbury) and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, spiritual children, friends, loved ones and church family.

My heartfelt condolences to th Patton/Jones family. It is a shock to hear of the passing of this beautiful, humble and true woman of God. She was always so kind to me and even when I was no longer at Deliverance, she always showed me love when we would see each other. I am in disbelief that she has passed, but I know she was prepared and ready for her new place of promise. You will surely be missed.
