Obituary For Leon Lewis Barksdale

Leon Lewis Barksdale, affectionately known as L.L., was born on July 12, 1959 in Charlotte County, Virginia. He was the son of Charlie and Rosa Brown Barksdale. He was the youngest of seven brothers and
two sisters. Leon transitioned from his labor to rest on September 30, 2026, at MCV-VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA.

Growing up in Prince Edward County, VA, he accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age, was baptized, and joined the New Witt Baptist Church in Farmville, VA. He faithfully service on the food committee until his health declined. He received his formal education in the Prince Edward County Public School System. He loved playing football under
the leadership of the coaches at Prince Edward County High School. He was employed at Longwood University for short period of time in food service. Leon was known for his back yard mechanical skills that were second to none.

Leon was preceded in death by: his parents, Charlie and Rosa Barksdale; his brothers, Willie “Bill”Barksdale, James “Stumpy”Barksdale, and Earl Barksdale; sister, Annie Marie Rice; brother-in-law, Howard Lawrence; and sister-in-law, Betty Barksdale; and his ‘Number One Road Dog Partner, Carl “Mole” Shepperson. Leon’s love and memories will be remembered by: his brothers, Walter Barksdale (Mildred) of Richmond, VA, Charlie T. Barksdale
(Mattie) of Farmville, VA, and George Barksdale (Nellie) of Farmville, VA; one sister, Onie Barksdale Lawrence of Keysville,VA; sister-in-law, Trenna Barksdale of Keysville, VA; one aunt, Mary Brown of New York; best friends, Adolph Watkins and Herbert Byrd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
