Obituary For Lisa Evette Durant Hackney

Lisa Evette Durant Hackney was born on September 11, 1961, to the late Louis Durant Sr. and to the late Vernelle Brown Durant Colman. On November 22, 2024, she joined that great cloud of witnesses as referenced in Hebrews 12:1 and her family that has gone on before her including her grandparents, parents and her sister Louise.

Lisa grew up in Harlem, New York with her family and received her education in the public schools in that area. As a young girl she was a girl Scott with her childhood friend Christine. She also had another childhood best friend, Donna Brown who was very concerned about her wellbeing.

As a teenager she would work summer youth jobs for the city and also worked at Barns and Noble. Also, during the summer, she would visit her Aunt Minnie in Buckingham County. Some years later, she moved to this area to assist in the care of her grandmother. During this time, she achieved her CNA licenses which opened the door for her to work at the various health facilities including private sitting.

While living in New York she attended the St. Luke Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. J. G. McCann Sr. with her family. Upon moving to Virginia, she became a member of Deliverance Church of Christ II under the leadership of the late Bishop Robert J. Patton and Pastor Lena Patton, who she adopted as her spiritual mother and mentor. At Deliverance she was a hard worker in every department, even assisting with vacation Bible school. After moving to Lynchburg, VA and not being able to commute, she affiliated with the Ramp Church International under the leadership of Bishop S. Y. Younger. She also fellowshipped with Higher Heights Cathedral of Deliverance also in Lynchburg. Although she had a life of many trials, she always maintained her testimony of her love for God

She leaves to cherish her memory; Her son, Luis Crews Sr. (Lorena) of New York; Her brother, Louis Durant Jr. of Petersburg, VA; Her uncle Thomas Brown of Washington D. C.; Her aunt Margaret Brown of Washington, D.C.; Her grandchildren, Luis Roberto Enrique, Lenny, and Lily Grace Crews; Her niece and nephews; Bianca Bennett, Henry Clark, and Louis Durant III; Her great nephew and nieces, Payton and Zamauri Durant, and TiShawna Robinson; Her first cousins, Kim, Oneal, Sharron, and Robert Brown, William Durant (Bam), Carl Jones, Danna and Renee Grippon and a special sister/cousin Cathy Shaw; Also, a close and dedicated friend of eleven years, Howard Farrow; A host of cousins, friends and family that was to numerus to list.

I am Free, Praise the Lord I'm free.

No longer bound, no more changes holding me, My soul is resting, it's such a blessing

Praise the Lord hallelujah
