Obituary For Louis Lee Wright
LOUIS LEE WRIGHT entered the world on Friday, March 14, 1941, in Garner, North Carolina (Wake County), representing the birth of a significant link in a long-standing family chain. The sole child of Arthur Wright and Helen Alice Whitaker Wright, Louis was the product of a union that not only initiated a personal family bond but also connected generations through deeply ingrained culture, tradition, and love. This union was a crucial continuation of the a perily chain," embodying how families are linked through shared experiences and heritage. Louis was a curious and adventurous baby, his sparkling eyes and mischievous grin highlighting his eagerness to explore. His tiny hands reached out inquisitively, embodying the spirit of discovery that was a detning trait throughout his life. By the age of tvo, Louis and his parents migrated to New York City, where they were warmly embraced by Thomas and Alberta Ragsdale and their baby daughter, Alberta, affectionately known as "Tiny." The Ragsdales' "adopted" them into their family, creating a strong link between the two families and showcasing how the family chain can transcend even blood ties, weaving love and support into a cohesive network in the vast cityscape of New York.
Louis's inquisitive mind found joy in building, fixing, and mastering the latest technology. His academic journey through the New York City public school system-including schools like P.S. 186, JHS Edward W. Stitt, and Aviation High School—-prepared him to become a licensed Federal Aviation Administration airframe and powerplant technician in 1959. Continuing his education at Manhattan Technical Institute, he earned a degree in drafting and mechanical engineering. Yet, his relentless curiosity led to an unfortunate incident: an explosion that resulted in the loss of some fingers and damage to his eye. Throughout his life, Louis faced the challenges of diabetes and multiple melanomas. Despite these tough times, he never lost hope, drawing strength from the unwavering support and love of his "family chain."
Louis dedicated his life to the field of mechanical engineering, where he skillfully applied his talents. He crafted mechanical plans and contributed to the development of F14 fighter jets, submarines, aircraft carriers, communication satellites, and other advanced equipment. Throughout his career, Louis worked for leading companies, including Drummond Corporation and Thomas Edison Corporation. Beyond his engineering prowess, Louis was a spirited entrepreneur, managing his father's mechanics business and later owning the Bridge Plaza II Lounge (Alberta's Uncle John owned Bridge Plaza 1) as well as an apartment building in the South Bronx. His adventurous and curious nature constantly drove him to seek new projects and challenges. A lover of life and technology, Louis found joy in exploring the latest innovations. He especially delighted in engaging with his smart devices, like his phone watch and Alexa Show, which he playfully quizzed daily. His passion for both his work and the wonders of technology defined his vibrant, ever-evolving journey.
On April 25, 1965, Louis married his lifelong sweetheart, Alberta "Tiny" Ragsdale, his companion since the tender age of two. Their lives were intricately woven together, sharing not only family life but their entire world. Alberta's family became Louis' family, and his family embraced Alberta with open arms.
They lived, loved, and traveled together, always looking out for one another, bound by a love that made them true soulmates. Louis treasured every family gathering, whether for holidays, special occasions, or simply spending time together, cherishing the unity and warmth that defined their lives. His love for Alberta's family was as profound as his love for his own, and their mutual devotion was the foundation of their shared journey. After over fifty beautiful years of marriage, the love of his life, Alberta, preceded Louis in death on February 19, 2018, leaving him with a profound sense of loss, yet the enduring connections of their "family chain" continued to honor their legacy of love.
Louis was a man of many talents and quirks, a connoisseur of knowledge and good humor. His hobbies were as diverse as they were entertaining. He enjoyed long walks— probably more for the exercise of his thoughts than his legs—where he pondered life's great mysteries, like why the remote always vanished just before his favorite show. A true Renaissance man, Louis was as comfortable in the kitchen whipping up culinary delights as he was devouring the latest global news. He famously balanced the world's political chaos with a side of conspiracy theories, enthusiastically dissecting plots that stretched from what was happening in his residential building to the government. Food was a passion second only to his conversations. He relished a menu fit for a king: halibut fish, turkey wings, succulent ribs, Swiss cheese and mashed potatoes, each bite a testament to his love of hearty meals. And woe to anyone who got between Louis and his daily fix of extra creamy chocolate ice cream—it was a daily ritual that even the wildest conspiracy couldn't disrupt. Brimming with intelligence and a zest for life's eccentricities, Louis enjoyed sharing his eclectic knowledge, easily making one wonder about his unique perspectives.
Louis Lee Wright, a man whose earthly journey was marked by both stumbles and steadfast devotion to family, has completed his final transition. His love for the many people around him fortified the family chain, providing unwavering continuity even amidst life's ups and downs. His zest for life was undeniable, yet his heart carried an enduring ache, forever missing his one true love, Alberta, and his cherished mother, Helen. On Sunday morning, December 15, 2024, Louis answered his call home, leaving behind the earthly links to reunite with those he adored.
