Obituary For Lucy Lavern Robinson

Lucy LaVern Washington Robinson born March 6, 1956, the second of four children born to Ernest and Christine Walker Washington in Appomattox, Virginia. Her parents and beloved brother Darnell, preceded her in death. Her sunset was January 20, 2023 in Lynchburg, Virginia. LaVern confessed Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where she remained faithful until her move to Detroit, Michigan. She reinstated her membership with Mt. Pleasant when she moved back to Virginia. LaVern graduated from Appomattox County High School in 1973, and enrolled at St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, VA in August of the same year. There she was inducted into the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. It was at St. Paul’s college where she inherited the nickname “Juicy Lucy”. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1978, and began her teaching career in Prince Edward County. She continued her education earning her Master’s degree from Wayne State University. LaVern met Ronnie Leon Robinson in 1977. The two became inseparable, true love from the start. Lucy and Ronnie married November 25, 1978. The adventurous couple moved to Detroit, MI in 1979. In this union, they raised their four children: Shermaine, Ebony, Jamel and Kendra, with loving and tender care. While working for Detroit Public Schools, LaVern was an excellent teacher, union representative, mentor and friend. She received the teacher of the year award and retired after 29 years of faithful service. She joined Zion Progress M.B.C. and was an active member and president of the usher board, until she moved back to Virginia in 2018. LaVern was a gifted poet.
