Obituary For Lylton Clyde Crenshaw
Bishop Lylton C. Crenshaw entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2026, quietly at home, surrounded by the love and presence of his devoted wife.
A native of Virginia, Bishop Crenshaw was born in Mecklenburg County to the late Teressa Clyde Crenshaw and Agnes M. Crenshaw. He was educated in the Mecklenburg County Public School System and pursued higher education at
J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and Virginia Commonwealth University.
A lifelong member of Union Meherrin R.Z.U.A. Church in South Hill, Virginia, Bishop Crenshaw was baptized at an early age under the leadership of the late Pastor Hillman C. Wright. From the very beginning, his life was marked by service and music. He faithfully served as the church pianist for many years, and it quickly became evident that music was not merely something he did, it was something he carried. Notorious for his musical versatility, Bishop Crenshaw played multiple instruments and could move effortlessly from piano to guitar and beyond, blessing every space he entered with sound, skill, and spirit.
After relocating to Richmond, Virginia, he continued to pour into gospel music ministries across the region, playing for several churches and serving as lead guitarist for numerous quartet groups. He also led and served in many choirs, including the Cumberland Mass Choir. He loved God deeply, and he loved music passionately, often saying the two were never meant to be separated.
Bishop Crenshaw recognized his call to ministry under the leadership of the late Pastor Dr. James D. Williams at Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. He was licensed to preach in June 1985 and ordained in November
1986. He faithfully served as an associate minister at Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, and Sharon Baptist Church in Farmville, Virginia, before later accepting the role of pastor at Little Union Baptist Church in Amelia, Virginia.
In 1994, Bishop Crenshaw answered the call to full-time pastoral ministry at Union Outreach Fellowship Church in Farmville, Virginia, formerly known as Union Baptist Church. Under his leadership, the church experienced tremendous spiritual and physical growth. He led God's people in true holiness, justification bv faith. and consecration unto God, teaching not only by word but by example.
He was not only a Bishop, he was a servant. He labored faithfully to move the saints from structure to order, always pointing people back to Christ.
In 2003, led by the Spirit of God, Bishop Crenshaw and the Union Church family aligned with Apostle Dr. J. Lemuel Spence, Presiding Prelate, becoming members of the Word Harvest International Fellowship of Churches. This divine alignment resulted in the renaming of the church as Union Outreach Fellowship Church. In August 2004, Bishop Crenshaw was consecrated to the office of Bishop, serving as the Virginia State Diocesan. In June 2009, he was appointed Vice Presiding Prelate of Word Harvest International Fellowship of Churches.
He faithfully served on the College of Bishops until his earthly transition.
Beyond the pulpit and the office, Bishop Crenshaw was a devoted family man.
He shared a beautiful 37-year marriage with the love of his life, Overseer Salonge Crenshaw. Through life and love, they were blessed with three sons. ddie, Andy, and Brian Sr., who were the joy of his heart. He cherished hi amily deeply and believed that family was more than blood, it wa everyone God placed in his care. Anyone who met him quickly became "family."
To his eight grandchildren, Cheyenne, Breanna, Ariel, Leah, Andrew Jr., Lauren, Addison, and Brian Jr., he was not just Bishop or Grandfather but the most amazing Papa. He loved them fiercely, laughed with them freely, prayed over them often, and left an imprint on their hearts that will last a lifetime.
Bishop Crenshaw was also known for his warmth, his humor, and his unforgettable nicknames. Affectionately known as the LeBron James of nicknames, he had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. His loving touch, kind words, and genuine spirit left lasting impressions on all who encountered him.
He was more than a Bishop.
He was a husband.
He was a father and Papa.
He was a musician.
He was a servant.
He was a man of his community.
Bishop Crenshaw was preceded in death by his parents, Teressa Clyde and Agnes M. Crenshaw, and his brother, Brian Keith Crenshaw.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Overseer Salonge Crenshaw, his three sons, Eddie (Tomeisha), Andrew Sr. (Norma), and Brian Sr.
(Alexis), eight grandchildren, two sisters, Lois Evans and Kimberly Crenshaw, three brothers, T. Kelvin Crenshaw, Kenneth Crenshaw, and Vincent Crenshaw (Dinah), and a host of nieces, nephews, spiritual sons, and daughters.
His life was a sermon.
His love was his legacy.
And his impact will be felt for generations to come.

Mrs. Ann Spell
Blessed with a long life, but even with all those years I know they were not enough for those who held Bishop Crenshaw so dear to their hearts. To his wife, sons, and all his loved ones, I extend my deepest condolences. May the countless, fine memories of your beloved husband and father forever warm your hearts and bring smiles to your faces, even behind tears shed. May you find comfort in knowing that death was never God's plan, (Gen.1:28; Rom.5:12) and one day death will be no more, (Rev.21:4) as loved ones will be resurrected (Acts 24:15) with the hope of life forever in paradise, on earth, (Ps.37:11,29) as God intended. Until then, cherish the hope and the memories of Lylton Crenshaw.
