Marrel Mearl Hawkes, son of the late late Ester Williams and Warner Hawkes, departed this life on December 27, 2018, at the McGuire Veteran’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He attended school in Brooklyn, New York. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in World War II. Upon returning home, he met and married Mary Ella Leftwich. The two reared their son, Charles E. Leftwich.
