Obituary For Marvin Lorenzo Bigelow

Marvin Lorenzo Bigelow was born July 11, 1963 in Prospect Virginia to Christine Biglow Walker and Jack Biglow. Marvin entered eternal rest on Monday, November 18, 2024 in the comfort of his Farmville home surrounded by his loved ones.

Marvin accepted Christ at a young age and became a member of the Peaks Baptist Church. Marvin, affectionately known as “Starvin’ Marvin or Bigelow”, attended Prince Edward County Public Schools in Farmville, Virginia. Going into the workforce at 19, he was employed by Longwood College in 1985, starting in the boiler room. In 2001, he joined Aramark, which still allowed him to work at Longwood. He became the overseer of Curry & Frazier Halls, where he took great pride in keeping his buildings immaculate. He professed that no one else on his shift could buff, strip or wax any floor quite like him. He was a very dedicated worker and was respected by his supervisors and coworkers. In 2013, he retired from Longwood University after enjoying employment for many years.

In 1989, he was united in holy matrimony with Ms. Felicia R. Brown.

Marvin will forever be known for his funny sense of humor, and for being well known and loved by all whom he came in contact with. To know him was to laugh and love him. He loved being outdoors, fishing, playing cards and enjoying football. He loved music and would hit the floor when any of his favorites were played. He enjoyed being with his family and close friends, watching Gunsmoke and going on family trips with his brothers and sisters.

Marvin was proceeded in death by: his parents, Christine and Jack Biglow; grandmother, Josephine Washington Walker; grandfather, Gassie Jones Sr.; sister, Shirley Jordan; three aunts, Thelma Harris, Reba Easly and Catherine Mills; one uncle, William “Jumpsey” Walker; cousins, Phyllis Ghee, Brenda Harris, James Harris and Ronnie Walker.

Marvin leaves to cherish his memory: four beautiful daughters, Shaquilla Brown (Michael), Lena Bigelow, Melody Bigelow and Kasey Bigelow; a loving devoted niece, Tina Bigelow; five sisters, Mabel Logan, Jacqueline Foster (Edward), Jacey Miller (Paul), Virgie Foster (William) and Reva Haskins (Craig); two brothers, Eddie Biglow (Arleene) and Steven Bigelow; aunts and uncles, Mary Bannister, Edna Walker, Gassie Jones Jr., Henderson Walker (Annette); seven grandchildren, De’Anna Chambers, Alana Chambers, Miyonna Chambers, Kenny Ford, Lamarrion Terry, Kobe Pollard, Leonee Bigelow; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family, and friends who all loved him dearly.

Marvin was a happy, fun and exciting person and will be truly missed by many. He will forever live in our hearts but we know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
