Obituary For Mary Jane Scott

On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, God decided to call home our beloved mother, Mary Jane Scott, to her eternal place with him. Mary had a peaceful departure from this life, at Johnston-Willis Hospital, where she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and dear friends who showed her love and warmth. Her legacy is that of love, kindness, and hospitality that will forever remain in our hearts. Born on May 27, 1953, Mary Jane was the cherished youngest of eight children born to John Henry and Ella Mae Scott.

Her journey of faith led her to become a member of Sharon Baptist Church, where she served faithfully from a young age. Mary's devotion to God and her church could be seen in her many positions, such as May captain of the SBC March Rally, and representing her church at the NAACP King and Queens Rally, where she won 2nd place.

Mary Jane's education at Luther P. Jackson School (now Cumberland County School) laid the foundation for a life of hard work and dedication. Her career journey led her through various roles at Craddock Terry, Stackpole, and Longwood University's "The Bud Group," where she retired after 17 years of service.

To know Mary Jane was to love her. She was not only an incredible mother, but an extraordinary grandmother and great-grandmother. Her joyful spirit and warm presence were known far and wide, and she had a unique way of making everyone feel special. Her laughter, her stories, and her unwavering support touched all who crossed her path. Mary Jane was always ready to lend a helping hand, never letting her own struggles overshadow her desire to uplift others. Her radiant smile and steadfast faith were encapsulated in her favorite saying, “GOD GOT ME!”

Though we mourn her passing, we celebrate her reunion in heaven with her parents, her sisters Marie and Lucille, her brother Charlie, and several nieces and nephews who preceded her in death.

Mary Jane's memory will be cherished by her children, Issac, Charlene (Caleb), Lorine, and Keisha, along with her beloved bonus son, Jamie. Her legacy continues through her eight grandchildren: Tameika, JaShana, Travon, Ikeirra, Alexis, Ty'Shon, Keandra, Dae'Jaun, and her treasured bonus grandson, Cedric. Her twelve beautiful great-grandchildren, Asionna, Trinity, Cyncere, Treasure, Tristan, Jakhai, Jaida, Jakhari, MJ, Kaden, Syriah, and CJ, will forever carry her spirit. Her loving brothers, Francelle (Lucy), Roosevelt, Walter Lee (Verline), and James, a companion sent from heaven, Kevin, along with her devoted friends Martha, Mary, Eleanor (Boodie), Yetta, and Ann, cherished cousins Laura, Melvin (Bubba),and Arcille (Putt), join a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends in celebrating her life.

Mary Jane Scott was truly one of a kind, a heaven-sent angel who graced our lives with love, compassion, and joy. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
