A wise and loving God, who makes no mistakes, and does all things
well, deemed it necessary according to his plan, to call Mary Lucille
Farley Hatcher from labor to reward. She was at Centra- Southside
Community Hospital in Farmville, Virginia at the time of her departure.
Mary was born May 1, 1934 to Marshall and Lucille Randolph Farley.
She received her education in Cumberland County Public Schools.
Mary confessed Christ as her Savior at an early age, was baptized, and
joined Sharon Baptist Church. She met and married Paulus I. Hatcher on
April 14, 1951. Their union resulted in the birth of six children.
Mary was preceded in death by: her husband, Paulus Hatcher, Sr.;
four sons, William Hatcher, Marshall Hatcher, Larnell Hatcher and
Paulus Hatcher, Jr.; one granddaughter, Natasha Suber; and two sisters,
Dorothy Hill, and Ruth Jones.
She leaves to cherish precious memories: two daughters, Karen
Chavis and Mildred Chavis; nine grandchildren, Andre Hatcher (Tamu),
Ernest Chavis (Sharney), Larnell Chavis (Donna), Benjamin Chavis,
Cynthia Chapel (Damon), Mary Chavis (Sha-Ron), Wylea Chase
(Clarence), William Prince Hatcher (Sharrida) and Tahesha Hilliard;
thirty-two great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; one
brother, Robert Farley ( Janice); two sisters-in-law, Dora Hatcher and
Alice Manns; one brother-in-law, Douglas Hatcher; nieces, Lynn, Sheila
and Nona; nephew, Kevin Johnson; long-time friends, Earline and
Louden Marshall and Laureen Wright; and a host of extended relatives
and friends.
