Obituary For Mildred Wright Reid
Mildred Wright Reid was born on July 24, 1926 in Prince Edward County Virginia.
She departed this life on Friday, December 22, 2023, peacefully in her sleep. She
was preceded in death by her parents, James and Annie Wright and was the sole
surviving sibling of Clyde, Mamie, John, James, Willie, Bessie, Elizabeth, Mary,
Katherine, and Dorothy.
She was educated in Prince Edward County Public Schools and graduated from
Robert R. Moton High School in 1946. She briefly attended Virginia Union
University. Aunt Mildred was married to the late Oscar T. Reid, Sr. for over 50
years. She joined Race Street Baptist Church (now known as Jericho Baptist
Church) at an early age before joining her husband at First Baptist Church.
Aunt Mildred was an extraordinary thrifter and lifelong fashionista. She was boho
chic before its time and rarely wore the same outfit twice! Her photography skills
were second to none and captured many years of family memories which have
served as a collection of fond reminiscences.
Aunt Mildred was the matriarch of our family and served as an honoree at many
of our birthday and reunion gatherings. On July 29th of this year, she celebrated
her 97th birthday with many of her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her
memory two stepchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and
friends. Even though she birthed no children, she claimed all of us as her own.
Always willing to lend a sympathetic ear, she was our sounding board and we
loved her dearly. The entire family made sure she wanted for nothing. She is now
resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior and would likely say “Do not worry
about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself...” Mathew 6:34

I just got the news of your passing. Thank you for always being so very kind to me. You were a most lovely woman, both inside and out. I know you rose in power and now rest in blessed peace in the presence of God. Romans 8:38-39

Rest in Peace Cousin Mildred. I'm glad my grandmother would bring me with her on her visits to VA to see family. I have continued the tradition with my sons. We are the 4th and 5th generation of your uncle George Wright. You will truly be missed. Cousins Denise, Maurice and Tyreese.
