Minnie "Rita” Brooks, the daughter of the late Zachariah Brown and Minnie Swann, was born on July 16, 1967 in Charlottesville, Virginia. She departed this life for eternal rest on November 19, 2024 at home with her family.

Affectionately known to many as "Rita", she confessed Christ as her savior on August 11, 1998 and joined Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church in Dillwyn, Virginia. She attended school in Buckingham County, graduating from Buckingham High School.

Rita was a loving and caring person, always willing to help others. She was a very hard worker and loved her job cooking for others. She was truly a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Having been preceded in death by her parents, Rita leaves to cherish her memories: one devoted daughter, Danielle Brooks; life time partner, John "Oneshot" Whorley; bonus sons, Eric Whorley (Cherie) and Chris Whorley; bonus sisters, Susan Chapman and Lisa Woodson; grand children, Justin, Brooklyn and Kenston Whorley; two brothers, James Brown (Priscilla) and Charles Brown (Lisa); one sister, Deborah Robinson (Rob); one aunt, Ruth Stewart of New York; two devoted friends, David Brooks and Lisa Fleming; and a host of nieces, cousins, and lots of loving friends.
