Obituary For Olvin Veazey

OLVIN Veazey, 83, entered eternal rest on September 22, 2024, at St. Vincent medical Center in Bridgeport Connecticut.
He had bravely confronted multiple illnesses and ultimately suffered from
heart failure.
OLVIN was born February 19, 1941, in rural Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Jim and Bessie (Pearson) Veazey. He was the 10th of twelve children.
Originally from Jackson Gap, the family moved to Camphill to harvest cotton and corn on their own land. OLVIN shared his fond childhood memories often traveling to Jackson Gap with his brother, Harry, to visit his grandmothers and attend church
services.
OLVIN was looked up to from his younger siblings for guidance after his mother died when he was 20. Throughout his highschool career
he played basketball and football and excelled in both sports winning championships and MVP HONORS. Olvin graduated Edward Bell High-
school. He also helped farm, cooked, and hunted with his father and older sister, Mamie.
OLVIN worked various jobs. After high school, OLVIN, and his brothers, James, and Calvin traveled to Stamford, Connecticut. In June 1968, he eventually found his niche in another sport which he became a heavy Weight boxer. He began to
work out and train in New York and Stamford CT.
He fought in the heavyweight division and even fought on the undercard at Madison Square Gar-
den with Muhammad Ali. Training in New York he also became acquainted with Mabel Jackson through a mutual friend. OLVIN married Mabel Jackson in New York and together they had two sons Marcus and Sedric. OLVIN also had children from previous relationships, three Daughters and
a son, Venessa, Sherrell, Jacquline and Kenneth.
