Obituary For Phillip Walker Sr.

On Friday February 27, 2026, Mr. Phillip Walker, Sr., a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and cherished friend, departed this life at VCU Medical Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Phillip was born August 8, 1944 to Arthur Walker and Eloise Booker Walker. He was born and raised in Farmville, Virginia and received his education through the Prince Edward County Public School System.

Phillip was known for his jolly spirit, warm smile, and kind heart that could brighten any room he entered. His laughter was contagious, and his presence brought comfort and joy to everyone blessed to know him. He took great pride in his family and lived each day with a heart full of love and gratitude. A man of integrity, humor, and generosity, Phillip was more than a husband and father—he was the foundation of his family, always ready with a word of encouragement or to lift others’ spirits. Not too many people knew he was a Washington Redskin/Commanders fan, which we won’t hold it against him. He was famous for his sweet potato pies and had a talent for buffing floor so smooth that you better hold on to something before you slipped. Sometimes they were so shiny, you could see your future in them. “Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might….”(Ecclesiastes 9:10). He especially loved his nieces, greeting them with his signature saying “Hey Baby!” We not excluding the nephews, but we just didn’t hear a signature word in reference to you all, but love telling each of us “I love
you more!” “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”(John 13:35).

Phillip was joined in Holy Matrimony to Nancy Carol Jackson on December 19, 1964. The union was blessed with five children. He was employed by the Prince Edward County Public School System, where he retired after 29 years as the maintenance technician.

Phillip was preceded in death by: his parents, Arthur and Eloise Walker; his sister, Marian Walker; his brothers, Joe Walker and Samuel Walker; and his grandson, Aneal Walker.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy Walker; children, Phillip Jr.(Dana) of Keysville, VA; Tracy of Prospect, VA; Tosha Smith (Andre) of Baltimore, MD; Shawn (Pamela) of Richmond, VA; Anthony of Prospect, VA; eleven grandchildren, Tervell, Octavia, Octavius, Le’Tierra, Anthony Jr., Kendra, NaTasha, Cadejah, Fatima, Tamia, and Ahmad; ten-great grandchildren, Kuhvell, Jayce, Kha’Nyla, Omari, Tervell, Melanie, Cai’meir, Onyx, Kori, and Daniel Jr.; two brothers, Arthur Walker of Washington D.C, and Jerome Walker (Lisa) Oxon Hill, MD; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Walker, and Shirley Brown (Walter); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed.

Phillip,Dana and the rest of the Walker family, you have my prayers and condolences on the loss of your loved one. My sister speaks highly of Mr. Walker and remembers fondly the many evenings he escorted her to her vehicle as she was late leaving the high school. Losing a loved one is never easy but I pray God grants you the strength you need as you adjust to his transition. And may He continue to cover you with His grace and mercy. Take comfort in your memories of him. 🕊️🕊️🕊️
