Robert Douglas Carter Jr
July 02, 1945 - August 22, 2026
Obituary For Robert Douglas Carter Jr
Robert Douglas Carter was born on July 2, 1945, in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He departed this life on August 22, 2026, surrounded by family and friends at his bedside.
For more than three decades, Robert worked at Hampden-Sydney College before retiring in 2009. Shortly after his retirement, his beloved wife of more than 49 years, Daisy Mae Carter, became ill. Robert cared for Daisy in their home with devotion and tenderness until her passing in September 2019. Even as his own health declined, his steadfast dedication and unwavering commitment to her well-being stood as an admired example of true love between husband and wife.
Throughout his life, Robert held a deep appreciation for the humanity in others, a steadfast belief in the dignity of every person, and an unwavering commitment to treating all people with respect. These were not merely values he expressed, but principles he lived by. Robert understood that every person carries a story, every life has value, and everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and treated with kindness. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and joyful sense of humor. Robert had a special gift for making others laugh, offering words of wisdom, and bringing light to those around him.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Daisy; his brother, William; and his parents, Rosa and Robert, Sr.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Michael and James; his grandson, Miles; his siblings, Michael and John; and a host of relatives and friends.
Public visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bland-Reid Funeral Home in Farmville, Virginia. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Farmville, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centra Hospice of Farmville, Attn: Dana Garrett, 1705 East Third Street, Farmville, VA 23901.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at Holly Manor Nursing Home and the Intensive Care Unit medical professionals at Centra Southside Community Hospital for their compassionate care. The family is also deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from relatives and friends.
