Obituary For Robert Morris Thompson

Robert Morris Thompson,“Bobby”as he was fondly known, passed away suddenly at his home in Rice, Virginia on November 30, 2022. Bobby was born March 9, 1938, the youngest of ten children born to the union of the late Willie and Betty Thompson. He attended the public schools in Prince Edward County and graduated from the R.R. Moton High School. Early in life he was baptized and joined the Gravel Hill Baptist Church, remaining an active member. Holding numerous jobs here in Virginia during his early years, he was finally old enough to go to New York and work with his brothers and start his own adult life. He married Freda L. West in 1964 and to this union one son was born. Although Bobby lived most of his life in New York and his employment of chauffeur, public school bus driver for the handicap, city taxicab driver and an entrepreneur of his own bar, he always yearned to come back to Virginia and as luck would have it, he retired and did just that. You could see him on his tractor with his straw hat going around the field and he was happy. He loved planting his vegetables and sharing his bounty with whomever. His sunflowers and roses were his delight as well. Bobby loved to reminisce of days past and tell stories that would make you laugh sooo hard, his own laughter was hardy. There were times though, when he would love you today and only like you the next day, oh well... 🙂 🙂 He was predeceased by all of his siblings: Sonny, Doris, Alma, Rudy, Lewis “Tidbit”, Garland, Lois, Herbie and Carl. Bobby remarried and leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Alice Thompson; his son, Tony (Monette); granddaughter, Kaliya, who was the apple of his eye; three sisters-in-law; Sarah, Hattie and Florence Thompson; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who adored him and will miss him dearly; his special niece, Jean Thornton who was his “LiL” nurse; and a devoted niece and nephew, Sondra and Warren Walker, who were always just a phone call away.
