Obituary For Rolf Leon Jones Jr.

Rolf Leon Jones, Jr. departed his life on Monday, May 4, 2026 at his home in Buckingham, Virginia at the age of 57. He was born on August 22, 1968 to Rolf
Leon Jones, Sr. and Mary Eloise Shelton Jones. He was the youngest of four children.

At an early age, Rolf accepted Christ into his life. He was a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. He ushered, sang in the choir, and took care of
anything that was needed to be done. His parents taught him the importance of having a solid foundation in the Lord that would carry him into his adulthood. He later joined Second Liberty Baptist Church with his wife, Angela, and daughter,
Arianna, where he continued to sing in the choir.
During his school years, Rolf enjoyed participating in sports such as basketball and
track. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and would often
use his green thumb talents on the plants in his home. After graduating from
Buckingham County High School in 1986, he continued his education at Norfolk
State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Personnel
Industrial Relations (Human Resources).
Upon completing college, Rolf took the path into law enforcement. He worked at
the Norfolk City Jail as a counselor and deputy sheriff. During his time there, he
also participated in extradition runs as a prisoner transportation officer. He also
held the position of correctional officer at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail.
Rolf and his family’s time in the Tidewater area had come to an end and they
decided to move back home to Buckingham to be closer to family. He continued
on the law enforcement path and worked as a counselor at Powhatan
Correctional Center. He then moved to Dillwyn Correctional Center to be closer
to home. He worked as a counselor and oversaw the parole violator’s unit.
Rolf’s career path changed and he began working in the field of education. He
became a special education paraeducator at Buckingham County High School.
Rolf grew up with a mom, aunt, and cousins who were educators in the
Buckingham County School division, so it was no doubt that this was a logical path
for him. He loved working with the students by leading small group instruction,

helping students with their assignments, and supporting them in their classes. He
had great fun assisting in the coaching of the students on the Medford League
team. Rolf truly enjoyed working with the wonderful students, teacher (Ms.
Bickford), and staff in the cottage classroom, where he was assigned, as well as
classroom B05. He often shared stories about them and their many fun learning
experiences in the cottage. Rolf loved cooking with and for the students. He often
shared stories about his days at the CTE building as well with the auto mechanics
and building trades teachers (Mr. Oliver and Mr. Scialdo) and students. He
learned so much from the teachers he worked with each day, including Mrs.
Stephani Jones whom he worked with when he began working at the high school.
In the past few years, he had expressed great interest in becoming a licensed
teacher. The success of the students was extremely important to him.
Rolf loved listening to music, collecting tools, riding in his Chevy truck, fishing,
cooking, conversating with others, and most of all, being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rolf Leon Jones, Sr. and Mary Eloise
Shelton Jones. He is survived by : his wife of 32 years, Angela Patterson-Jones;
daughter, Arianna Catherine Jones; goddaughter, Stanessa Harris Purnell (Kevon),
three sisters, Leona Jones of Forestville, Maryland, Belinda Page (Joseph Page) of
Chesterfield, Virginia, and Cassandra Jones of Falls Church, Virginia; one surviving
aunt, Ophelia Shelton of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; in-laws, Willie and Charlotte
Patterson of Dillwyn, Virginia, brother-in-law, Maurice Patterson (Claudette
Patterson) of Charlottesville, Virginia; nieces, Jessica Page-Inman of Suwanee,
Georgia, Christina Page of Chesterfield, Virginia, Ashley Hosan (Jeff Hosan) of
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ciera Patterson of Henrico, Virginia; nephews, Joseph
Page III (Katherine Page) of Silver Spring, Maryland, Shannon Rush (Ashley) of
Charlottesville, Virginia, Brandon Rush (Vanessa) of Arvonia, Virginia; great nieces
and nephews, Katherine Londyn Page, Malia Hosan, Sha’Kayla Woodson, Ariel
Holman, Dontrelle Inman, Jr., Henry Hosan, Nazir Rush, Jahlil Rush, and Derion
Rush, and many other special cousins, friends, and community members.

Rolf will always be remembered for his commitment, passion, natural leadership
abilities, fun personality, and willingness to help others. And let’s not forget his
booming voice that instantaneously grabbed the attention of those around him.
