Obituary For Ronald Ivan Turner
Ronald Ivan Turner, 65, of Esmont, VA went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 22, 2024, at UVA Medical Center. He was born September 14, 1958, a son of the late Irene Elizabeth Fountain Turner and Lucian Carter. After a spinal cord injury in 2004 and other illnesses, Ronnie has resided at Charlottesville Health & Rehabilitation Center since 2014.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James “Woogie,” John, Donald, and George “Joe” Turner; and four sisters, Lillie Cottrell, Viola Turner, Gloria Brown, and Phillis Randolph.
Ronnie, as he was affectionately known, was educated in Albemarle County Public Schools. He dedicated his life to Christ in his adult years initially at the Mission of Christ Church in Esmont, and later he re-dedicated his life to Christ at New Green Mountain Baptist Church in Esmont. Ronnie worked at odd jobs until his injury.
Ronnie was someone who enjoyed the simple things in life such as a conversation with family and good friends. He would befriend anyone without a care in the world. Ronnie was a jokester and could lift your spirits no matter how low you felt. He loved “hot wings” and chicken feet. No matter when you visited him, he always asked how everyone was doing. He appreciated so much his brother Phillip, sisters Yvonne and Kay, and nieces, Taylor and Mary who ensured he had his favorite foods. Ronnie’s pastimes included drawing, playing his guitar, listening to old school R&B, reading comic books, and watching westerns and action movies on TV. And let’s not forget that he was an avid fan of the Commandos (Redskins) and never missed a game.
He leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Yvonne Turner of Charlottesville, Camilla “Betsy” Turner of Stuarts Draft, VA and Debra “Kay” Turner of Dillwyn, VA; one brother, Phillip (Thelma) Turner of Charlottesville; a devoted great-niece, Melanie Reid; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.
