Obituary For Rosa Mary Gibson

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, our beloved Rosa Mary Gibson
departed this earthly life to begin a better life with our
Heavenly Father.
Rosa Mary, affectionately referred to by many as “Aunt Ro” or
“Rosa Mae” was born June 7, 1937, in Farmville, Virginia to
Vernell and Maggie Scott Gibson. Regardless of which name

you called her, the name represented a woman who was
loving, caring, encouraging and generous.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior, was baptized
and joined Race Street Baptist Church (currently Jericho Baptist
Church) where she remained a member until her passing. She
enjoyed attending the services until she was
physicaly and medically unable to do so.
She was educated in the Prince Edward County School System
and graduated from Robert R. Moton High School in 1955,
holding the third highest academic rank in her class. After
graduating, she began her pursuit of higher education at
Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA. Following a brief
hiatus from college, she returned to Virginia Union and earned
her Bachelor’s degree in education in 1965. Her passion and
welfare for the education of children was evidenced by her
employment for 23 years as a 3 rd grade teacher in the Prince
Edward County Public School System.
Many loving memories of her will remain and be cherished by:
her son, Rodney Gibson; grandson, Dermont Miller (Adrian);
granddaughters, Raven Gibson and Brittany Gibson; brother,
Floyd Gibson (Gloria); sisters, Madelean (Nathan), Clara (Bruce),
Anita (Jack); great granddaughters, Nevaeh and NY’Dia Miller;
and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ms. Rosa Gibson will be remembered by all who came in
contact with her and will be missed by all who knew her. We
know that God makes no mistakes in anything He does, so we
therefore humble ourselves to Him and return to Him whom He
has given to us.
