Obituary For Sadie Scott Walker

Deaconess Sadie Elizabeth Walker was born October 4, 1928 to the late Alonzo and Louise Scott. She confessed Christ as her personal savior at an early age and later joined Peaks Baptist Church. She courted, fell in love and married the late Deacon Oather Walker, Sr. on January 9, 1943. To this union 10 children were born. The two of them faithfully attended Peaks Baptist Church and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Her favorite scripture was “The Lord is my Shepard; I shall not want. Psalms 23:1.” Deaconess Walker was an active member of the Peaks Baptist Church Usher Board, where she served as the Vice President until age and health became a factor. She later became the mother of the church. Deaconess Walker was also an active member in the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #125 of Lynchburg, Virginia. As a mother to her family and community, she raised, inspired and supported her children as well as many others. Family and especially children were her joy. She would attend baseball games, football games, recitals and celebrations to show her support. She enjoyed playing spades and if Bre’Onna was around no one else could be her partner. She’d talk to Dorothy Walker for hours and forget to hang up the phone. Her eyes would light up when she saw her grandchildren, whether they came from across the yard, across state lines or across the world. People truly enjoyed her cooking, especially her rice pudding. Every third Saturday in August she would host the family reunion where there was abundance of food, laughter, spades, games, children playing in the front yard and rumbling of motorcycles. Two of her children proceeded her in death: Jerry Walker and Phyllis Springs. As a devoted matriarch of her family she leaves behind to mourn: six daughters, Carolyn Walker, Betty Roy, DeLois Moraff (Tony), Geraldine Saunders, Ernestine Lee (Frank) and Shatina Ford (Michael); two sons, Oather Walker, Jr. and Lonnie Walker (Rosettia); two devoted grandsons, Ron Walker and Ojay Wallace and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
